UPDATE:  (August 7)

The fire is 95% contained.  Full containment is expected August 11.

ALL EVACUATIONS HAVE BEEN LIFTED.

Some road closures are still in effect.

All residents are able to return to their homes at this time.

Background

On Sunday, July 23, the Black Crater Fire began in Senator Westlund's district near Sisters by lightning strike.  By the morning of July 29, it had forced the evacuation of several communities west of Sisters and continues to burn.  Current size is about 9,400 acres.

Briefing

On Saturday, July 29, Senator Ben Westlund, Governor Kulongoski, Rep. Chuck Burley, and Rep. Gene Whisnant were briefed on the progress of the fire.

Evacuation Lifted!

All evacuations have been lifted.  Everyone is free to return to their homes.
